, : Contra Volution! (2nd annual) (unconfirmed)
Description: The ONLY Wednesday Contra Dance in New England. This dance is primarily a class, teaching beginners and dancers of all levels (ages 10 and up) methods and styles of contra dancing. an example of what students of each level might learn when discussing the contra dance swing: Beginners would learn a walking swing, all you do is walk in a circle with your partner in proper swing position. Intermediate dancers would master a buzzsaw step in which both partners pivot their right foot, while pushing off in their left in the swing. Advanced dancers would work on a smooth step swing where both partners use their right foot to slide in the circle of the swing, letting momentum carry them around for 4 beats. at the average end of ten sessions, dancers know how to do a wide variety of moves, flourishes and finishes. They also have advanced conceptual understandings of timing, giving weight, counting beats and romance in the dance without having to resort to groping.
Dance styles include: Contra and Other-styles dance
Note: Clean, flat-soled shoes, socks or barefoot required for all dancers. Students should also bring a water bottle and a towel, as this class will be very activity intensive.
